What the problem was:

Warm Air Boiler with PCB Failure in Stafford.A lady called our local office on behalf of her mum, as she was elderly, she had a care plan with British Gas, and they have sent two engineers round two days prior to the call, to repair her 22 year old Johnson & Starley Hot Air boiler.  Neither of the engineers have been able to work out the fault. The ongoing problem was that the boiler worked for approximately half an hour, and then stoped working.  Because they couldn’t solve the problem, they suggested that she had a new boiler and central heating system, they had given her a quote for over £6000 which she could not afford, and they said that her insurance would be void if the boiler blew up, which had  scared her.  Her daughter had had to travel up from London where she lived, as her mother was quite distraught, and she needed a second opinion if she does need a whole new system, or if the boiler can be repaired.

What we did:

We sent a YourRepair engineer with the correct qualifications to work on warm air systems. This is identifiable on the back of the engineers Gas Safe ID.  The engineer began by stripping down the boiler and testing each component, where he discovered that it was the circuit board on the boiler that was faulty. Due to the relatively good condition of the boiler, he suggested that a repair would be good enough. However, he gave the customer another option, which was to replace the Johnson & Starley boiler with a like for like newer version, this would save considerable money for the customer.  The customer opted for the boiler to be repaired.  So costs for the repair were confirmed with the customer and her daughter, with a full explanation, and the customer agreed to go ahead. We ordered the part for next day, as the customers daughter was hoping to leave the day after, and she wanted the boiler up and running before she went home.  The part was installed the following morning, and tested to ensure that it was working correctly. Once the boiler was up and running the engineer tested to ensure that It was running safely.


The client and her daughter have made the decision to cancel her care plan, as she has lost trust with British Gas. The customer is now booked in for an annual service with YourRepair plumbers, and she has our details on her boiler, should she have any further problems.

What the problem was:frozen condensate pipe
This customer called as his boiler had stopped working, he thought that it was because of a frozen condensate pipe, as the same thing happened to him last winter.
