Boiler breakdown, customer reported no hot water, boiler was a Vokera Maxin 24e combi boiler, about 10 years old, the water is at best tepid, and it is normally very hot. Customer tried to turn up the temperature gage, but that didn’t made any difference, the boiler still fires, pressure gage is normal, radiators are still hot, and the gas flow to the property seems normal.

What we did:
The Gas Safe registered engineer, which was sent to solve the problem, was highly qualified in boiler breakdowns, and has extensive knowledge on different makes and models of boilers and central heating systems. He was friendly, polite and easily identifiable with his branded van, company uniform and ID badge which the customer was presented with upon arrival.  The experienced engineer diagnosed the problem as a faulty hot water diaphragm.  The older Vokera Combi’s use a rubber diaphragm and micro-switch set-up to pick up the hot water flow.  The part was picked up from a local supplier in Alderley Edge, and the part was fitted and then checked to ensure that it was then working correctly.  Once the boiler was fixed a gas safety check was carried out and the certificate was issued.  All our workmanship comes with a 12 month guarantee to provide the customer with further peace of mind, should the same problem re-occur.

An elderley customer called us, as she was having problems with her Baxi Bermuda 401 Back Boiler. The heating was working OK, but when she switched the hot water on, nothing happened, and it didn’t heat up the water in the tank.

What we provided:
Our local office based on the outskirts of Crewe was able to take the customers booking and dispatch a Gas Safe engineer at the customers earliest availability, which was the same afternoon of the booking being taken. We aim to provide the quickest response because we are a reactive plumbing company and understand that in situations such as this, a fast, professional response is required.  Our engineers carry out boiler diagnostic and safety checks, to quickly identify the problem. He noticed that when the central heating was on, that the boiler was firing up, and he could hear the pump operating. But when the water was switched on, nothing would kick in.  He narrowed down the fault to one of the thermostats in the tank, rather than to the boiler, which the customer suspected. The electricity supply to the tank was switched off so that he could check both of the thermostats to find out which one (or both) were faulty. He disconnected each one separately, and found out that the problem was with the top thermostat in the tank.  Firstly, the engineer tried to reset the thermostat, as this can sometimes provide a fix, however on this occasion, the thermostat needed to be replaced by the engineer to provide a repair. The electric supply was switched back on and the area checked for any further leaks. The boiler was then tested to ensure that it fired up when hot water was selected. A check was also carried out to ensure that it was working safely.

The central heating repair was attended to and solved on the day of booking, the customer was aware of costs prior to the engineer’s arrival, from our transparent pricing structure.
